Code of conduct

We understand that good behaviour and disciplinary rules are tools to service Education. Playing the role of an Educational Institution, we aim to foster in the student the respect towards him/herself and others, so they are able to savour the feelings of justice and solidarity as social and moral values.

Student’s rights

1. Receive cordial and equal treatment from Sociedade Brasileira de Cultura Inglesa’s staff, being it expressed by attitudes and language proper of an educational environment.

2. Receive information on the school’s facilities in order to facilitate its use.

3. Make use of the school’s facilities, respecting their due restrictions.

4. Find the school’s facilities under perfect hygiene conditions.

5. Receive promptly the educational service offered by the Institution.

6. Pose questions to the corresponding teacher and receive the due response.

7. Receive information on his/her academic development information regularly.

8. Obtain access to the academic calendar at the end of each semester.

9. Submit to the school useful suggestions to its proper functioning.

10. Resort to the branch’s teacher, administrative staff and/or managers in order to resolve problems.

11. Receive support classes upon teacher’s indication and previous scheduling.

Student’s responsibilities

1. Maintain consistent standard of behaviour towards colleagues, employees and teachers cordially and equally, while seeking to live in harmony.

2. Use language aligned with the social rules and educational environment.

3. Respect the property of others; look after the cleanliness and upkeep of the building as well as Sociedade Brasileira de Cultura Inglesa’s equipment and material, taking responsibility for replacing anything that he/she might have damage.

4. Attend classes assiduously not leaving the class before the due time, unless for justifiable reason and, in the case of minors, a previous authorization from a legal guardian is required.

5. Be punctual and in case of tardiness do not exceed the initial 20’ (twenty minutes) of the class under penalty of not being let in the classroom.

6. Attend at least 75% of the classes from the semester which the student is enrolled.

7. Behave properly in classrooms as well as in the school’s facilities, following the rules given:

  • It is not allowed eating or drinking in the classroom or in the Multimedia Centre, except in extraordinary cases (e.g.: celebrations, parties).
  • Mobile phones must be off during the class.
  • Avoid loitering which disturbs the due course of the class.
  • Avoid unnecessary exit from classroom.

8. Ensure to bring to class the complete set of pedagogical material.

9. Participate in the classroom activities making use of the English Language.

10. Hand in punctually the homework assignments requested by the teacher.

11. Do not bring to class company which is not enrolled in the same class of the student (e.g.: children, relatives or friends).

Procedures & Penalties

In case the student does not fulfill his/her responsibilities, the Institution will carry out the following procedures, which will be sequenced accordingly.

1º: The student is called to talk to the teacher.

2º: The student is sent to the managers.

3º: The Institution summons the entities responsible for the students (NGOs) so they are acknowledged of the student’s behaviour.

4º: The student is indicated to be transferred of class or, depending on the case, he/she receives the penalty of the following procedure.

5º: In cases of extreme indiscipline, the student may be excluded from the Institution, with the previous approval of the director, had the entities responsible for the student (NGOs) been previously informed of the decision.

Specific penalties:

• The student who reaches an attendance rate lower than 75% of the classes in the module will fail the course.
• The student who does not sit for the make-up test within the deadline will lose his/her scholarship.
• The student who shows up at the classroom more than 20’ (twenty minutes) late will not be allowed to enter and will be considered absent.
